Savoury Food Love

I am definitely one of those people that craves warm food when the season changes to the colder months. Porridge for breakfasts, warm veggies for lunch and curries, sweet potatoes or soups for dinner. I have been enjoying some yummy savoury foods lately most of which are really quick and easy to make, my style of cooking!

Eggs as you know are one of my favourite sources of protein. They are so easy to cook, really versatile and taste great. One of my favourite combos using eggs is combining them with mushrooms and courgettes cooked in coconut oil and eaten alone or with salad/steamed veggies.

I made this really simple rice dish the other night, I was home alone and as Dale doesn't like mackerel it was the perfect opportunity to eat some! This can be made with white or brown rice....

In a non stick pan add a little coconut oil, 2 crushed garlic cloves and a small diced red onion. Cook for a couple of minutes then add some peas, 1/2 a cup of cooked white or brown rice and a tin of mackerel. (I used mackerel that was in olive oil) Heat through for a further 5 minutes or so and season with salt and pepper.

Enjoy!

Ok so this isn't exactly a "healthy" meal but it is savoury minus the tomato sauce and it tasted bloody good! I think bloggers that write health, fitness and lifestyle blogs can sometimes come across like they eat amazingly healthy food all the time but I am human and enjoy all sorts of not so good for you foods too.

Last Sunday all I could think of was a bacon sandwich for breakfast so thats what we had but it got pimped up a little! We used gluten free brown bread to make our toasted sarnies and topped one slice with cheese which we melted then completed it with smoked bacon and tomato sauce...amazing! Definitely not an everyday food for me but I am relaxed enough with my diet to eat this, enjoy and not feel guilty!

Question:

What savoury meals have you been loving lately?

  2. Yay for a bacon sandwich! I am always really honest with my readers that there is definitely some "junk" in my diet.
Love the sound of the mackerel rice too.

    1. I think you have to be honest, I read some blogs and feel depressed that I'm not as healthy and the food is always so perfect but I totally believe it's not completely true everyone has a dark side! Ha x
