Yummy Vegetarian Foods

Now if you read my blog you now I broke my Veganism 2 weeks in due to the pain I was getting from exercising and not getting enough protein. I have also mentioned how it has made me realise I do really like meat but I don't plan to eat masses of it after this, I don't plan to stop eating it either.

Before going out with Dale I ate a bit of fish but meat probably only once a year so eating vegetarian foods was an everyday think for me and to be honest I love veggies so its no hardship eating vegetarian. Below are some of my favourite vegetarian meals!

EGGS! Of course these had to feature first I love eggs any which way be it boiled, fried, scrambled, poached or in an omelette. Not only are they super tasty but they are so easy to cook especially if you want a quick healthy meal. One of my favourite ways to eat them is with mushrooms, avocado and cucumber. Those flavours together are awesome!

TOFU! I don't loads of tofu because it can be expensive and eating lots of soy products can mess about with your hormones (if your a women). But three or four times a month is quite often the case in our house. I usually buy the tofu that is already flavoured just convenience to be honest but this is why its expensive! My top 3 favourite already flavoured tofus are hazelnut, olive and curried mango. I actually bought some from a little Chinese supermarket down the road from me, just the plain stuff to make my own. I think the trick is to leave it marinating for as long as you can so it soaks up lots of flavour. Mine turned out of but it needs some tweaking before I could tell you all the recipe!

QUORN! Yep I quite like some Quorn now and again I can only eat the chicken style chunks as the other styles all contain wheat or gluten but that suits me fine as I prefer the chicken style bits anyway! I use it for stir fries, in sauce with steamed veggies or it works really well in a curry. Check out this Quorn Vegetarian Chicken Tikka Masala recipe it sounds so good and perfect to warm you up on a cold drizzly day.

Question:

What is your top meat alternative?

  1. I could eat eggs all day!
I tried tofu and it was OK, but I'm not sure I really cooked it the way I was meant to. I should really try a dish with it in one day when I'm eating out to see what it's all about. I can't remember ever really seeing it on the menu anywhere though. :(

    1. Eggs are the best! The pre flavoured tofu is probably the best stuff to start with until you get used to cooking it, yeah it's not on menus much unless your eating out in a veggie/vegan place : )

  2. I rarely eat tofu. I just find it a bit tricky to cook with and, like you said, I'm wary about the hormone issues. But I do love eggs and quorn. I used to eat soo much quorn but for me I can't live without meat - especially chicken.

  3. I like tofu- the basil stuff is the best one I have tried for in salads, and I like the silken tofu blended up with baked pasta or in moussakka, although I don't eat it that often because it is expensive. I generally rely on pulses for my protein, along with smaller amounts of nuts. I don't like eggs on their own but I have them in things- I like an egg in pancake batter after a run and I am sure that is down to the protein making the pancakes more filling.

  4. I love eggs but never eat tofu now just for that issue you mention with the hormones. I don't touch Quorn as it seems overly processed to me, I'd rather just eat the meat!

  5. Beans and lentils are probably my favourite alternative. We have tofu maybe 1-2 times a fortnight.
