March Review Post!

Hey everyone, hope your having a nice Tuesday?
I had a very busy morning including a spin class, trip to the garage to get my car fixed, meeting a new client and getting new tires! Definitely time to stop and sit down to take a breath and share with you some of the new products I have been lucky enough to try this month. If you have ten minutes then sit back and have a read you might see something that catches your eye...........

First up Littlewoods Breville Hand Blender!

It just so happens that reviewing this food blender couldn't have come at a better time, I had a very basic plastic one that actually melted slightly the week before receiving this new one. All my own fault really I couldn't wait for my soup to cool and popped the plastic blender in and it was so hot the tip went all out of shape, no good for someone that eats a lot of soup!

This Breville blender is stainless steal (no melting!) and really great to use, I have been blending lots of soups and I also made a delicious pesto with the chopper. When I was asked about reviewing this blender for Littlewoods I have to be honest I would never have put two and two together. I didn't think of Littlewoods ever being somewhere to get kitchen appliances which it obviously is. They also have the option of buy now pay later catalogues if you didn't have the cash straight away which is always handy!

I made pumpkin seed and basil pesto in the chopper which is so yummy and was super easy to make:

You need: pumpkin seeds, fresh basil, pine nuts, garlic, lemon, walnut oil, pepper and salt.
To make: I chopped 2 garlic cloves then added the basil, oil and pumpkin seeds and chopped again. I then added the lemon juice, salt and pepper and pine nuts, chop until finely blended.

I didn't really measure anything just threw it in and tasted then added whatever it needed more of. For my first homemade pesto it was a bit of a hit though Dale loved it!

All in all I am very pleased with this product and it was made me get a little more adventurous in the kitchen which is never a bad thing! I will definitely be checking out Littlewoods when I need more kitchen appliances : )

Truvia Baking Blend

I have baked some delicious cookies with Truvia calorie free sweetener before which you can read about here, so when I was asked to try the new Baking Blend I thought why not?
This is a mix of stevia and silver spoon sugar so not calorie free but being mixed it has 75% less sugar then the 500g packs of silver spoon. If you like sugar but want to cut down this could be a good way?

I used the sugar when making my own granola, I only used 1 Tbsp and it was definitely enough. This is really sweet so I would suggest using it minimally, I usually go for natural sugars like honey, maple syrup of agave which are sweet but no where near as sweet as white sugar. I don't think I would buy this again, I just wouldn't use it, the other Truvia products I do use sometimes though.

So if your trying to kick the white stuff this is a good starting point, or if you just want to cut out some of the sugar from a recipe this would be good to use too.

Mermaid Pie Dish

Last month I reviewed a Mermaid Yorkshire pudding tray which I loved and this month I got to try out a smaller pie dish which is just as good! I made a crumble in mine, you can get the recipe here. What I really like about this cookware is the way it feels sturdy, like it will last. It is made from hard anodised aluminium so I'm sure it will last quite a long time! If you like to bake this is a great brand and I would highly recommend trying them out : )

Welch's Grape Juice

This is something I have reviewed before too, I actually really like grape juice so said yes to trying the new flavours. As I mentioned in my last review I don't generally drink juice other then the fresh stuff I make myself but sometimes its nice to have a glass with lots of ice and a squeeze of lemon. I always have it half and half with water I find it way to sweet otherwise.

The new flavour is white grape and raspberry, love it! This is really nice, very sweet but if its diluted with water it makes for a lovely drink. Welches have also reduced the sugar in the purple and rose juices.

You can tell that both are less sweet then before but I would still recommend diluting with water but it depends how sweet you like your drinks. Both taste nice but I for me the white grape and raspberry was the winner : )

the 2 day diet

Finally I have the review for the 2 day diet book. Honestly I found this really difficult and it was a total fail when I realised I was doing it wrong! When I read the book and got to the guide pages I read the calorie allowance as 1000 max per day (picture above) which was easily doable but I was informed that I should actually be eating only 500 hmmmmm this was tough! The book tells you not to calorie count but go by there guide and eat your allowance from the protein/fruit and veggie charts which if you actually calculated it (with a calorie counter) would definitely add up to more then 500 calories......confusing! Another thing, I found it quite odd that you can drink lots of sugar free drinks and have sugar free mints as to me those just aren't healthy. They also make you hungry which isn't good if your trying to eat less!

I tried and failed this made me think about food constantly and what I could or couldn't eat. I also found that doing a lot exercise and needing lots of energy to work with clients this didn't work for me. I think you need to be in the right mind for this and right now I guess I'm not.

Ok peeps thats my March review wrapped up, thank you to all the companies that were kind enough to send these products for me to try, I am very grateful to have been asked : )

I hope you guys have enjoyed reading about my thoughts on these goodies, I have a post coming up to talk about product reviews and guest posts etc so stay tuned!

Question:

Have you tried any of the above what did you think?

  2. I was going to ask you about that diet, it sounds like it was very confusing! I could definitely do with a stick blender, mine has melted too!
